London Tango Encuentro Special at Negracha, Dancing All Weekend Long

This week only! Negracha will play host to the opening night of the fabulous London Tango Encuentro. We’ll be at Conway Hall for this very special occasion, but beforehand there will be an exclusive workshop from maestros Simone Facchini & Gioia Abballe at Herbal Hill. They will then be delivering a magical performance later in the night at the milonga at Conway Hall! We will also have the very special event of a Maestros Ronda, with Simone & Gioia, Esref Tekinalp & Vanessa Gauch, Natasha Lewinger & Haris Mihail, and Dante Culcuy & Chris Benson all sharing their incredible talent on the pista. TDJ Dan Bujdei will be playing for the first part of the night, with Vinicius Flores taking over for our Afterparty at Herbal Hill.

The return of Natasha & Haris

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for! We’re so delighted to have the incredible Natasha Lewinger & Haris Mihail back teaching with us for a very special five weeks. Natasha & Haris’s passion for dancing and teaching has to be seen to be believed – come along and experience their incredible attention to detail, and love for tango!

Starting on the 15th October, Natasha & Haris will be teaching the Tuesday Technique Class & Advanced Special, the Wednesday Intermediate class, the Saturday Advanced and the Sunday Intermediate classes. You won’t want to miss their technique tips and signature moves. Come along and make the most of these beautiful people, and wonderful dancers.

World Champions Marcos Roberts & Louise Malucelli are in London!
Marcos and Louise are coming back to Tango Amistoso this week! We will welcome them this Saturday at Milonga Amistosa. They will be teaching the Tango Unlimited slot at 16:30 and the Advanced class at 18:00. The Tango Unlimited class will be an ESCENARIO SPECIAL. They will also be teaching the Sunday classes at Milonga Simpatica.

Throughout their stay here, you can find them teaching the Open Level Technique class and Advanced class on Tuesdays from 19:30 and some Saturday and Sunday classes when they are available. They are also available for private lessons, please get in touch at info@tango-amistoso.co.uk if you are interested. You will be paying the visiting teachers directly and the whole of your payment goes to them.

New Course: Volcadas & Colgadas on Thursdays
We are starting new courses this Thursday, 13th June, running for 7 weeks – Beginners, Improvers and Intermediate Level 1.

For Improvers, this is our Out of Axis – Volcadas and Colgadas course – we will learn solid foundations for the embrace and posture, pull and push energies and use all of that to go out of Axis. There are seven such courses that we run that cover the breadth of Tango. Apart from learning movements and sequences, the key focus is to explore the foundations of Tango like the embrace, connection, musicality, etc using the movements as a tool. For Intermediate, we are going to explore the topic further.

The Beginners course is perfect for those who want to try Tango for the first time or for those who want to revisit the basics and brush up their technique.

Fausto Carpino & Stephanie Fesneau in London 5 – 8 July
Fausto and Stephanie have been a dance couple since July 2011, teaching tango in over 31 countries and 115 cities worldwide.

What is Tango Unlimited?

Tango Unlimited is Tango Amistoso’s own specialised class for exploring dancing and music outside the norms of traditional salon tango, pushing the boundaries of what tango can look and feel like. In these classes, we’ll draw on bold and exciting traditions established and developed by artists and dancers such as Chicho Frumboli, Gustavo Naveiro and Giselle Anne, and practiced by a stunning array of dancers today. Visiting Amistoso teachers have been a massive source of inspiration for our Tango Unlimited classes, including Tymoteusz Ley and Agnieszka Stach, Loukas Balokas and Georgia Priskou, Giorgos Nikou and Katerina Chatzipanteli, and Tomas Corbalan.

Tango Unlimited Classes are available for Intermediate and Advanced Level Dancers starting from Intermediate Level 1. Please check the level guide in the website if you are not sure about your level. As part of Tango Unlimited classes, you’ll focus on less conventional or perhaps totally new tango movements, ranging from elastic colgadas and soltadas to dips and even aerial lifts, learning how to incorporate these into your dance as a fluid extension of more familiar tango steps. Tango Unlimited is all about improvisation, listening and connecting to your partner in order to achieve something spectacular together. And, by innovating and deconstructing tango fundamentals, you’ll actually deepen your understanding of the technical aspects of traditional tango figures, while also forging new ones.

In the Tango Unlimited classes, we’ll draw on more diverse musical traditions, dancing to songs you might not have heard before, or thought about dancing tango to, including modern electronic tango by orquestas such as Otros Aires, or experimenting with dancing to world music. Developing a musical response to new textures and rhythms will greatly enhance your musicality, and broaden your musical world immensely.

Tango Unlimited is all about breaking rules in order to create a tango that is spectacular and modern, while also deeply musical and connected. Come along every Saturday to discover how to elevate your tango to a new level.

NEW Classes/Venues, Paris – London Collaboration, Negracha and a lovely week at Tango Amistoso

Paris – London collaboration
We worked hard behind the scenes to bring back the London – Paris collaboration by working with different organisers in Paris and here in London. This has resulted in creating two amazing weekends of Tango that are coming up soon. End of March, we go to Paris to DJ in their Milongas and perform there too. The Parisian Milongueros will then come to London to return the favour at the end of April by bringing their DJs and performers. Of course, these weekends are for the community! Please do come along and travel with us to Paris and be there in London to welcome the Parisian crowd.

NEW Classes:
We have now launched a new venue in South London in Wandsworth on Tuesday evenings! James Wilkinson is the main teacher and he is ably assisted by our teachers in school. Right now, there are Beginners classes every week on Tuesdays at 7pm. By April 9th, it will expand to Beginners plus Improvers. It’s this Friday! 17th of November marks a spectacular milestone – 19 incredible years of dancing at Negracha and so many unforgettable moments with Ivan Arandia 🍾 Join us at the iconic Conway Hall, and experience the magic that has fueled Negracha for nearly two decades! Entry to higher level classes / Weekly news

First of all, thank you to all of you for the wishes, presents for our birthday celebrations last week with a special thanks to those of you who could make it in person. Thank you to all of you for being part of our community and making it what it is.

We want to explain to you how entry to our higher level classes work as there seems to be a fair amount of misunderstanding and apprehension about the process itself. We do have a strict set of entry criteria and a process for going to the higher level classes. We also understand that there are many of you who have been dancing for a while and are actually good dancers but may not meet all our entry criteria because you did not start with us as Beginners and so have not ticked all the boxes in the syllabus that was defined by us. If that is you, please don’t hesitate to contact us by email or in person in the Milongas/classes. We will be more than happy to have a chat with you and work out a plan to get you into the higher levels as soon as possible. We really do want good quality dancers with experience to come to our higher level classes!

For those of you who want to progress faster/feel like you have enough dancing experience but may not have learnt all the basics we expect you to know before coming to the higher level classes, we hope to run some intensive workshops from next month that will cover all the syllabus that we expect people to know before coming to the higher levels. We are working out the structure of these workshops. We will publish these soon.
